Talks
Theory Topics
- Talk:Tobias Tischler; Partner:Janine Hütig
Gunion-Bertsch spectrum
- Talk:Philipp Lüttig; Partner: Christian Wesp
Parton propagation in matter: Wilson lines
- Talk:Andreas Arend; Partner: Thomas Lang
Angular ordering in vacuum - basis of jet physics

Details for the Theory Talks can be found
here
Experimental Topics
- Talk:Vitalii Ozvenchuk ; Partner: Elena Belolaptikova
Basics of calorimetry
Electromagnetic vs. hadronic calorimetry, a few different implementations/technologies and particle identification.
(use CDF, D0, ATLAS and/or CMS as case studies)
- Talk:Anna Kotynia; Partner: Alexander Kalweit
Jet finding in heavy ion events -- background fluctuations
An important consideration for jet finding in heavy ion events are background fluctuations. Discuss jet area (passive and active) for different jet finding algorithms, estimators of the background (how does centrality tie in?) and 'back-pressure'.
- Talk:Theodor Rascanu ; Partner: Tomas Balog
Recent result from LHC: Di-jet asymmetry reported by ATLAS
Discuss the result and what the underlying mechanisms may be (energy loss; which scenarios work/don't work (ref Wiedemann).
Also discuss the effect of background fluctuations (ref Cacciari). What has ATLAS done to explore this in the paper? What is the origin of the observed asymmetries in p+p? Is the used quantity A natural; could one define better observables?
- Talk:Elina Seel ; Partner:Jan Kopfer
Recent result from LHC: RAA measurement by ALICE
Discuss the features of the measurement and the (constructed) p+p reference. Compare to RHIC results. Is the observed increase of RAA with pt expected? (some refs, including Kopelivic)
- Talk:Minni Singla ; Partner: Simone Schuchmann
Collective flow backgrounds for di-hadron correlations, with emphasis on odd harmonics
(Alver, Roiland paper and a more recent paper by M. Luzum)
- Talk:Patrick Reichelt ; Partner: Iurii Sorokin
Three-particle correlations
Discuss the three-particle correlation measurement from STAR ( http://www-library.desy.de/spires/find/hep/www?eprint=arXiv:0805.0622 ). What new information does this add compared to two-hadron measurements? Also discuss the importance of background terms, see:

Practical Information
Begin/End
Checkin at the Chalet is open at 16:00 on Sunday.
The scientific part of the lecture week will close on Friday evening.
Late arrivals
If you will arrive late or on you own please contact the coordinator in advance so key pick up can be arranged.
Venue
The lecture week will be at Chalet l'Eridan, 74230 Manigod (France).
Manigod is situated at an altitude of 950 m in the french alpes, south-east of Thones, roughly 20 km east of Annecy.
If you travel on your own directions can be found
here.
Travel
We travel by chartered bus to Manigod. Details including schedule and departure points
can be found here
Accomodation
Accomodation is mostly in twin bed rooms.
Food
The chalet does not have official catering.
We will self organize breakfast and lunch. Bread will be delivered every morning. Grocery shopping
will be organized and help from the participants is expected for and after the meals.
Without formal lunch we are more flexible with outdoor activities. We will have full dinner
prepared for us by M. Jean Christophe Pergod.
Special food requirements (vegetarian, other) will be arranged on the first evening.
Full board is included in the lecture week.
What to bring
Conditions for winter sports are hopefully very good both for cross country as well as for alpine skiing. Please plan accordingly.
Clothing
The lecture week will be very informal, so only casual attire necessary.
Please plan for severe weather and winter outdoor activities.
Linen/towel
You need to bring your own towels (!)
Sports equipment
Bring your skis, sled, snowboard and red carrot for the snowman
Sauna
The chalet has a sauna. If you are interested to use it you need to bring your own sauna towels.
Internet
A WLAN access point is available.
Presentations
Each participant will contribute in a presentation. Subjects will be given in due time
before the lecturer week. They will be arranged by the lecturers. The presentation will
not be on the own scientific work of the participant but will be connected to the topic
of the lecture week. A laptop and projector will be available.
Presentation time is 30 minutes including discussion.
Expenses
All basic expenses are covered by HGS-HIRe.
You only have to pay for local expenses (drinks,etc.). All meals are included.
Insurance
Though this trip will not generate any costs for your supervisor or group please
do not forget to file a trip request so you are covered by insurance during the
lecture week.
Special notice
All outdoor sports activities are completely under the participants own responsibility.
HGS-HIRe does not cover any costs or takes responsibilities for injuries or damage related
to these activities. A waiver needs to be signed by every participant to agree with these
conditions at the beginning of the lecture week.
