Who we are

The Helmholtz Research School is funded by the Initiative and Networking Fund of the Helmholtz Association and is a cooperation between the Gesellschaft fuer Schwerionenforschung (GSI), Darmstadt, the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies (FIAS) and the physics department of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt.

Our Mission

The Helmholtz Research School supports the national and international scientific research in heavy-ion and hadron physics, associated with the future International Accelerator Facility FAIR at GSI. This new facility will give direction to the research in modern heavy-ion and hadron physics for the next decades. It will be established based on the present CERN and GSI efforts, including the upcoming heavy-ion program at the CERN-LHC, where the next generation of scientists is be trained prior to the final construction of the new GSI facility. The graduate student training program will foster dedicated young researchers in our field and build up research groups working nationally and internationally, supporting the science done at the leading future facilities at GSI and at CERN.
