Theme: Chirality in Physics and Chemistry
Location: Sparkassenakademie Schloss Waldthausen
Abstract:

Chirality (handedness) of elementary particles, atoms, molecules, supramolecular arrangements and even macroscopic objects is an equally important and intriguing property. Physicists and chemists have developed multiple ways to identify, create, manipulate and describe chirality of objects on broadly different scales with sophisticated experimental and theoretical methods. But languages, concepts and pictures for communicating crucial new findings and open challenges vary significantly in these two fields as do the applied techniques. The goal of this summer school is thus to bring together physicists and chemists in order to recap the respective special terms, discuss key concepts in chirality, highlight latest experimental advances and indicate upcoming future strategies for measuring, designing and manipulating chiral systems, outline theoretical improvements in describing and understand special properties of handed systems and become aware of the current major challenges of various aspects of chirality as to foster fruitful interdisciplinary activities.
