Event

The Helmholtz Research School supports the national and international scientific research in heavy-ion and hadron physics. It is funded by the Initiative and Networking Fund of the Helmholtz Association and is a cooperation between the Gesellschaft fuer Schwerionenforschung (GSI), Darmstadt, the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies (FIAS) and the physics department of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt.


 

TOPNEWS - Lecture Week Strasbourg

In perfect weather the 11th H-QM lecture week was organized on "Electromagnetic Probes" in Strasbourg/France. Tetyana Galatyuk, Hendrik van Hees, Sascha Vogel and Klaus Reygers discussed theoretical and experimental aspects of the topic.

Power Week Data Analysis II

The third H-QM Power Week will focus on methods for jet measurements used in current data analysis in heavy ion experiments. It will be held in Chamonix/France November 9-13, 2011. The aim is to broaden the hands on experience on such analysis techniques not commonly used by the participants in their own thesis projects. The Power Week will be organized together with the Hard-Photon Working Group of the ALICE experiment at CERN-LHC.

The first Lecture Week of the new H-QM group will be held at Haus Humboldtstein in Rolandseck at the Rhine River in March 2010. Under the topic "Heavy Ion Collisions: The big picture" the lecture week will give a general overview about the field, the methods and concepts.

Summer semester ended with Graduate Days

The Summer semester 2007 ended with the first Graduate Days of the Helmholtz Research School. Another highlight during the semester was the first soft skill program organized together with the Imperial College, London.

Journal Club

A new journal club has been started. The club provides the opportunity to read papers together and to discuss them with other participants of the school. The journal club is self organized by the participants.

H-QM Lecture Bus, Summer Term 2007

The H-QM Lecture Bus provides transportation for participants and guests to the H-QM basic lecture on Fridays at GSI. The bus stops at Campus Riedberg, S-Bahn station Kaiserlei, and at GSI.

Softskill Program, June 2007

The first Helmholtz Softskill Program will be organized together with the Imperial College London in June 2007. The venue will be Easthampsted Park, a Victorian country mansion located within 60 acres of parkland, not far from London, GB.

Lecture Week, 02-05.04.2007

A successful first Lecture Week was held at Haus Humboldtstein in Rolandseck at the Rhine River in April 2007. At this lecture week particle production in heavy ion collisions and detector types used in heavy ion physics were discussed by the two lecturers JProf Dr. Marcus Bleicher (Frankfurt) and Dr. Hans Rudolf Schmidt (GSI). The lectures were supported by various talks of the participants.

Opening Symposium at GSI, October 9, 2006

The official opening of the new Helmholtz Research School was celebrated with an opening symposium at GSI on October 9, 2006. Following greeting addresses by GSI, Frankfurt University and the Helmholtz Association two main lectures were given: Prof. Berndt Mueller, Duke University, Durham, USA, talked about "Some like it hot: the quark-gluon plasma at RHIC and LH(I)C.". Prof. Reinhard Stock gave a lecture on "Hadron production in Relativistic Nuclear Collisions".

Program Introduction at Frankfurt, October 16, 2006

An information session on the program of the new Helmholtz Research School for participants of the school was held at Frankfurt University October 16, 2006. The structure of the school, benefits and program details were discussed. The session was followed by a social event to meet fellow participants and members of the school.
